The Board Chair read the legal requirement Florida Statutes 1003.03(2).

The Superintendent stated that the budget in the next meeting has within it sufficient staff believed to meet the class size requirements to this final level as required in the Constitutional Amendment which is class by class in terms of caps for those core academic subjects.  The core subjects include reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies course.  In addition one course that is not always thought of as core that is included in the caps is the foreign language courses.  Strategies used to be in compliance with the constitutional amendment are:  Changing teacher assignments through using multi grade combination classes, compensating teachers to teach classes in lieu of planning time and using a portion of the voted referendum to fund teachers beyond the amount funded by the state.
